Overcoming Shyness with CFS
Shyness can cause many problems in a person's life. It can be experienced at different levels, from mild awkwardness in an unfamiliar situation, to panic and breaking out in sweats at the thought of meeting people. Shy people can experience their shyness to different degrees depending on the situation they are in.
Some people may only feel shy when meeting a new group of people, but feel really confident when with old friends and family. Some people may be comfortable in social situations but become extremely shy when talking to a potential love partner. According to research by Bernardo J. Carducci, Ph.D. 40-45% of adults say they are shy. Shy people can often feel misperceived as being cold, arrogant, uninterested and distant when in fact the truth is they really want to connect with the people around them.
Creative Freedom Singing can help us to overcome shyness by using the singing voice as a way to connect to who we are. We go beyond words to a deeper language, that anyone can understand and use to connect with others. Our singing voice. We use our own unique melodies and sounds to express how we feel as we did when we were babies. Babies are extremely good at getting their messages across without words. Here, it doesn’t matter what you say, there is no need for small talk. We provide a safe space to explore your singing voice, to play with what it can do and how it feels to use it.
Our focus is on non-judgmental singing. Judgment, whether good or bad on our actions, behaviour or our singing in this case, usually doesn’t create a sense of peace. Judgment has stopped many people singing openly, from being themselves and allowing themselves to be heard and seen by the world for a long time. Choosing to reclaim this innate part of yourself, your singing voice, and bringing a sense of peace to who you are will reflect in all areas of your life.
Choosing to sing regardless of whether your voice is “beautiful” or “croaky”, “good” or “bad”, can be very empowering. This can bring more confidence in you. Not because you will become an extroverted person or an amazing conversationalist, but, it can connect you with yourself and bring peace and strength in who you truly are. Then if you choose to be in any social situation you can do so with ease as you have full confidence in yourself.
